Records Section

The Records Division consists of one shift operating 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. Public Services provided by the Records Division include:

Law Enforcement Reports

Reports can be requested by phone, or in person.  The report should be made available for pick up within five days.  A victim may obtain one free copy of a report; however, additional copies are provided for a $12.00 fee.  Information is released per California State Law, Government Code Section 6254(f).

Letter of Clearance

A Letter of Clearance can be requested in person.  You must have a valid Government issued identification card and provide it to the Records Division for verification prior to release of records. There is a fee of $15.00 per Letter of Clearance.

Vehicle Release and Impounded Vehicles

You must provide a valid license plate number or vehicle identification number (VIN).  In order to obtain a vehicle that has been stored/impounded by the Avenal Police Department, you must have the following:

  • Valid vehicle registration
  • Proof of current vehicle insurance
  • Registered owner must be present with a valid driver's license
  • $100.00 City Administrative fee must be paid prior to release
If the registered owner does not possess a valid driver's license, someone with a valid driver's license must accompany the registered owner.

If your vehicle has been repossessed, there is a $20.00 City Administrative fee that must be paid prior to release.

Live Scan Fingerprints

You must have a completed Request for Live Scan form and all applicable fees must be paid.  Appointments for Live Scan and scheduled Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM.  You must bring a valid Government issued identification card and Request for Live Scan form with you to your scheduled appointment.
